Today is Lesson 6 in Business where we have learned how to distinguish between fibres and fabrics, and range planning cont. Donna Karan said, “The future of fashion lies in fabrics. Everything comes from fabrics.”
Textile fiber is the raw material for making textile fabrics. We can give different names to different types of fabric. Textile fabrics can be made in different ways. The task for the class is to complete this chart, and we need to think about the fact that there are two sources of natural fiber, what are they? There are many kinds of fiber. Can you name one? I think the task of learning how to distinguish fibers from fabrics is very important. We need to know how to use color swatches and worksheets to consider each fabric. Is this cloth natural or artificial? What kind of fiber do you think it’s made of? Or knitted or woven? These problems have a very important relationship with the brand version later. I also learned the pyramid classification of categories, leading Edge is the top point, fashion range occupies the middle position, and Core range is the most basic.Range width – The number of different styles/shapes you will offer will depend on your sales strategy, price and type of product. Range and depth – how many different colors, fabrics, prints, etc. will you offer for these styles/shapes?
I think my weakness is that I don’t understand the name of fabric when LEARNING fibers and fabrics. Still, I can’t tell the texture of the fabric from its name. I think I should remember more of the fabrics I usually contact, because I will use the fabrics when making products, so it is necessary to understand them. I think my advantage is that WHEN doing research, I can accurately complete the competitors related to my product and compare with them. I was fully prepared in this aspect. I found out four or five competitors and made tables of their products and prices for easy comparison.
