This is the first class of Design. Before the class, the teacher introduced the major direction of design for undergraduate study. There are women’s wear design, pattern cutting for fashion, fashion design and development and fabrics, etc. The techniques We learn in this lesson, We will work by using tracings to extract shapes. We need to pay attention to profile and design details. So, it’s very important when you draw lines.
The first step is tracings, we need to select a key Visuals from our own research page. Then do a tracing in line only without tracing the details and textures. Turn the paper over and continue to outline the shape along the original picture. Sizes of paper can vary but postcard size is good starting point today. The second step is to use the same method to draw more, in different sizes, within 15 minutes. The third step is to draw the head, arms and legs. It looks like a piece of clothing. Looking at your new shapes — Choose one which you think looks like it has potential for a COAT. Make it look like clothes, and add zippers, pockets or buttons where appropriate. You should only add pocket/collar shapes from shapes in artist research. Tape down your tracing shape to page.On the page , try to explain with basic drawing the garment shape, and any details.
In my opinion, my weakness in this class is my painting skills. When I process pictures and change clothes, I cannot transform them into a piece of clothes. I should learn more about details like zippers and pockets. And clothing is a three-dimensional thing, not flat, so it’s very important to draw shadows when you draw sleeves, pants legs, skirts. And my advantage is that when I draw things with sulfate paper, THIS part is very good, I draw many pages. And tried different sizes and different shapes. This plays a very important role in the following work. For the following work, preliminary research is particularly important.
